PARTNERS IN INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS

Kühne-Stiftung

Since the middle of 2005 our core research area of International Logistics Networks and Supply Chain Management is supported by endowments from the Kühne Foundation and the Deutsche Bahn AG, underlining the importance of our schools commitment to this research area. Since the middle of 2005 the Kühne Stiftung has been supporting the Center of Competence in International Logistics. The core research areas of the center of competence are the management and design of international logistics networks, as well as the securing of global supply chains against external disruptions. The goal is to integrate the center of competence into the international research community via exchanges and cooperations with international universities and research institutions. To intensify the knowledge exchange in particular in Asia, the Kühne Foundation has created and funded a partner chair at the Tongji University in Shanghai, China. The two universities in Shanghai and Berlin are thus able to cooperate closely in this area.

Siemens AG

The Center for Knowledge Interchange  (CKI) has been coordinated as a strategic alliance between the Siemens AG and the TUB since 2004. Focus areas of the CKI are the initiation and coordination of joint research projects. In the first two years of the CKI, the number of contract research projects funded by the Siemens AG at the TUB was tripled. Next to Innovation, a field of study in the faculty of economics and management, the CKI aims to improve the teaching  in other departments, such as "Talent". In this context, divers measures such as top-class lecture series, supervision and mentoring of study circles as well as support programs for students are realized.

Berlin School of Economics (BSE)

The Berlin School of Economics (BSE) will unite Berlin‘s career development programs at the PhD and Postdoc levels in a single and unique structure. It will combine the program content of three pre-existing, very successful career development programs: (i) The doctoral programs DIW Graduate Center (founded 2006) and the Berlin Doctoral Program in Economics & Management Science (founded 2003) will unite to form a single doctoral program. (ii) The Berlin-wide postdoctoral program Berlin Economics Research Associates (founded in 2016) will join the doctoral program under the new roof of the BSE.

The BSE’s doctoral program has four tracks: Economics, Management, Accounting and Finance. They are highly compatible with each other and allow numerous specializations. The program also provides a wide set of expertise in economic policy.

The doctoral program provides outstanding doctoral students with a vibrant, intensively networked research community and a training structure that will develop their talents in a unique combination of high-level academic and applied research. During the course phase of three semesters, students deepen their knowledge of economic theory, applied economics, business studies, econometrics, and economic policy. During the three-year research phase starting in the third semester, students write their doctoral theses while having the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the professional research environment that is provided in Berlin universities and research institutes

The postdoc program recruits its members from the international junior market for new PhD graduates. The program provides a mentoring program and multiple support structures for research activities, travel, and skills development of its members.

Both programs are connected to all major research activities of the participating institutions. A large number of research seminars, workshop series, masterclasses and short courses provide an abundance of new inputs.

The BSE rests on long-running efforts of a highly collegiate work environment in Berlin’s economic research institutions. Past success include a very strong list of placements. The alumni of the BSE’s predecessor programs already form a strong professional network.
